My current explorations focus on the use of plant proteins as a light sensitized binder for pigments. It shares similarities to the Gum bichromate photo-pigment processes. In my work, a plant-based protein is made light-sensitive with an iron salt of ferric ammonium citrate, providing a safer environment for the pracitioner. There are also some unique properties that provide a unique aesthetic that I find quite appealing.
This is a continuation of work that I started in 2009, when I started to experiment with the CHIBA system, where I utilized fish gelatine as the colloid, sensitized with ferric ammonium citrate and developed with dilute hydrogen peroxide. In 2023, I started to explore the possibility of using plant proteins as a replacement for gelatine. The project is ongoing.
